" Getting involved is really the way to get the most out of your membership.  I have been a member since 1999 and have been on various committees and on the Board.  The impact has been incredibly positive both professionally and personally."
- Marynel Wahl

Committees - JOIN NOW!

Just as important as the Board are the many committees that keep NEWBO running smoothly.  Many members volunteer to share their time and talent in a number of ways.  Some are able to make a committment to a committee, others can spare an hour, all are sincerely appreciated.

Since it is true you always receive much more back than you give, we encourage everyone to consider participating in any way.

Each of our committees can use additional support.  If you are interested in getting involved contact Barbara Cohen.

Core Committees

Membership Committee
If you enjoy getting to know people, are committed to the mission of NEWBO, find you are a natural host, and beleive in the mission of the organizaiton then Membership may be just what you are looking for.  This Committee focuses on:

  • detecting opportunities to promote NEWBO to women business owners and others in business who are prospective members
  • welcoming guests and new meeting attendees (guests and members)
  • following up with meeting guests to promote interest in joining NEWBO
  • introducing members to the NEWBO-only benefits of membership
  • identifying value added offerings to develop satisfied and committed members
  • tracking roundtable groups and facilitating the placement of members into existing roundtables or forming new roundtables
  • Members of the membership committee conduct orientation programs for new and prospective members at the end of dinner meetings

Program Committee
Great topics.  Great learning opportunites.  Great speakers.  This is what Programs focuses on.  For this committee we are looking for people with a pulse on the market - what topics draw, who are the best speakers, how can we create an event that "WOWs" members and guests alike.  The Program Committee focuses on:

  • Determing the focus of events based on member feedback and request
  • Identifying and sourcing dynamic informative speakers
  • Working closely with speakers to develop a topic that draws and educates
  • Preparing the materials used to promote the event (often in conjunction with Communications)
  • Identifying speaker gifts
  • Reviewing program evaluation forms and providing speaker follow up

Communications & PR Committee
If you have any marketing or PR experience then this is the place for you!  The Communications Committee is responsible for getting the word out about NEWBO.  Is there news?  Can we create news?  Did one of our members receive coverage, win an award, or receive recognition in some way?  The Communications Commmitte:

  • Prepares press releases and distributes them to the media
  • Reviews general organization communication to ensure messages are postioned consistently
  • Oversees the brand integrity of the organization
  • Maintains and updates the organizations marketing materials
  • Keeps a pulse on the industry and news regarding members, specifically and women business owners in general.

Speaker's Bureau
NEWBO's Speakers Bureau provides members with the opportunity to share their expertise and promote their businesses.  Each year we let organizations around New England know that we have a diverse and talented membership who can speak on a wide range of subjects in a variety of venues.  Although speakers are not paid a fee, occasionally NEWBO will receive a stipend which is used to defray the costs of current, ongoing projects.

Interested in helping but not sure you can be on a Committee?  We often need people who can share just a few hours of time.  Let us know you are interested so we can put your name on our list of volunteers.  Contact admin@newbo.org.
